What’s the Deal with this Bill?

Tuesday marked a huge victory for the Obama administration as he signed a major portion of the historic bill reconstructing health care. The 10 year 940 billion dollar plan came after a year of heavy debating and a 219-212 House vote.

So besides churning the stomachs of a slew of salty Republicans, what is this bill really doing? Well the legislation ensures that about 32 million Americans will gain health coverage and millions more will be protected from losing the insurance they currently have due to the expansion of Medicaid and federal subsidies. Uninsured individuals and small businesses also have the opportunity to shop around and pick the best insurance policy for them. In addition to all of the aforementioned perks, those insured cannot be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions and out-of-pocket expense are lowered for the elderly.

While this battle has been won, the war is certainly not over. Disgruntled Republicans feel as though the bill goes against the will of the American people and are doing their best to get it repealed. USA today reports House Minority Leader John Boehner (haha reads like boner *peter griffen laugh*) said, “We have failed to listen to American and we have failed to reflect the will of our constituents. Funny thing is Gallup Polls show that 49%-40% vote that the bill was “a good thing”. Go figure. Fourteen attorney generals are filing a suit claiming the bill is unconstitutional and that the federal government does not have the power to make health care mandatory. How dare you try and force America to have adequate protection from unseemly illnesses and injuries Obama, shame on you.

The re-election of President Obama will probably hinge on the success of this bill. Failure equals immediate crucifixion, but it’s cool because he’ll be covered. And that’s just how I’m feelin…

Stop The Madness!

It’s week one of the most wonderful time of the year. March Madness has been just that, pure madness; as well as sheer insanity and downright foolish at times. Some things however, never change. I still have whatever the opposite of the Midas touch is. That’s right any bracket I touch my pen to is destined to fail. Always has always will. Ok so I was a little reckless thinking it would be a good idea to pick Texas in 05 just to be different. But I’m wiser now, or so I thought before Kansas fell to Northern Iowa and disappointed millions of office pool participants and bracket enthusiast, including myself.

While Northern Iowa is the tip of the spear in this shock and awe campaign, they are not the sole participants. Elsewhere Saint Mary’s knocked off No. 2 seed Villanova and Washington dismantled New Mexico. Ohio upended Georgetown in the round thus making everyone who said avoiding going with the Hoya’s sound like wise old sages. The first round was scattered with close to a dozen lower seeded victories and the Kansas defeat shows that no one is safe. So who’s set to take the crown? Kentucky is at the top of the list now in the talk for the title.  Personally, I think the Ivan brothers from the Capitol One commercial have what it takes to cut the net next month.

So with my bracket busted, I will now enjoy the rest of the tournament as just a mere spectator and hope this tournament is chalked full of upsets and millions of other disgruntled fans. Doggone it I want Northern Iowa to win the whole thing now! Meanwhile, I still have faith in my UCONN Lady Huskies, but then again I probably shouldn’t speak too soon. And that’s just how I’m feelin…

Bad Behavior: No longer just a Guy Thing

Emotions were beyond control Wednesday night as the game between Baylor and Texas Tech ended with Britteny Griner being ejected and Jordan Barncastle nursing a broken nose. While near the free throw line, Griner got tangled up with Barncastle, who attempted to fling her to the ground. The whistle was blown Barncastle continued to talk. Griner responded with a haymaker right in the nose. Tempers flared from both teams and refs had to separate and issue technical fouls. The result of the skirmish; Griner getting hit with a two day suspension.

Hold the phone LeGarrette Blount taps a guy’s jaw and is out the whole season but this chick breaks a nose and gets two games???  Well according to Skip Bayless this issues isn’t as easy to figure out as it seems. During the ESPN segment 1st and 10, Bayless defended Griner saying she endures not only endless taunting, but extra physical play from opponents. He quoted Wilt Chamberlin saying “nobody roots for Goliath.” He said that she reacted because she was fed up with being picked on and fighting is new to the women’s basketball.

I have to disagree with Mr. Bayless because I feel that enough fights have taken place in sports period to have a policy in place for situations like this. In 2002 Latasha Byears was fined and suspended for throwing punches. There were numerous suspensions stemming from the infamous Detroit vs. L.A. brawl. Not to mention the countless men’s fights.

The Associated Press reports that Baylor coach Kim Mulky stands behind Griner describing her as a “gentle giant.” She went on to say in an interview that Griner reacted out of character and should not be defined by this one incident. Unfortunately, women’s sports doesn’t receive get enough attention for her to repair that image anytime soon, unless of course she throws down a couple more ferocious dunks. Aside from that, there is the issue of  punishment fitting the crime.  I feel like there should be a blanket rule for codes of conduct in every sport so we can stop this “oh he’s out the whole season but this guy will on get one or two games” mess. I also think the focus should be placed back on my UNDEFEATED UCONN LADY HUSKIES!!! UCONN will reign supreme no matter what. And that’s just how I’m feelin…

Here’s the incident in question. Check it out and make your own judgement

Sanford Saga Comes to an End

Sorry I’m late with this one. South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and Jenny are done, through, finished. The former first lady of South Cac filed for divorce the February 27 and was granted her wish. Now, if the state of South Carolina would just follow suit and divorce him then all would be well with the world, but I digress.

I read the ABC News online article, the first thing that jumped out at me was Jenny’s recollection of right before she, and Mark tied the knot. She stated that he told her outright he wasn’t sure he would be able to be faithful. Excuse me? I guess she thought he was joking. I then found out Mark had been asking permission to go see his mistress. The time the whole “Where’s Mark” fiasco was happening she knew and had told him not go. Since when did spouses grant permission for infidelity? Here’s how I imagine the conversation going.

“Can I go see her today?

“No.”

“Please?”

“No.”

“PLEASE!?”

“FINE!”

The former first lady isn’t leaving this ordeal empty handed. She was able to score a book deal and it’s out now. The memoir entitled “Staying True” chronicles the shenanigans of Guv’na gives insight  into her feelings on the whole situation. The irony is in not only the title, but also the fact that she asked the divorce settlements and so many other things to be kept private for her sons’ sake and then writes a book on the debacle anyway. Oh well.

According to my readings this divorce occurred not because of infidelity within her marriage, but because now everyone found out. I feel she shares some of the blame for not taking him at his word before they got married. She gets props for leaving him at the podium to address the world alone. That was hardcore. I do credit Mr. Sanford for his monogamist cheating style and finding one soul mate. Tiger take notes. And that’s just how I’m feelin…
