What Makes a Laker Hater Hate?

The other day I read a tweet that made me think. It said something to the extent of “why do people hate the Lakers so much?” I sat back and began to asses my burning hatred and found it wasn’t as bad as I thought. As an organization I have nothing but respect for the Lakers. You can’t knock a man whose image is used as the logo for the NBA (Jerry West) and I still watch Magic Johnson’s highlights in awe. As far as Kobe goes, he’s one of the best closers in the game point blank period. I may find the team cocky, whiny and dirty at times, but my level of disdain for the team is moderate at best.

So why then do I sit around watching and waiting for the demise of the Lakers?  Why does my hatred for them burn with the intensity of 1000 suns?  As I continued to read my timeline, I realized that the reason I hate the Lakers so much is because of their fans.  In my personal experience/opinion, Laker fans are the most obnoxious, basketball people on the planet. Based on study done by me, I’ve come up with these numbers to explain my grievances against Laker fans.

  • 32% of Laker fans don’t know a thing about the game of basketball. I could watch a game with them and say “Kobe traveled” and these clowns would probably ask “On which airline?” If it wasn’t for their fathers, brothers, boyfriends etc cheering for L.A., these cats would pick their favorite team based off of whose uniform was the most appealing. I can’t take you seriously.
  • 46% of Laker fans have never traveled West of the Mississippi River. They wouldn’t know L.A. from Tokyo if you dropped them off there. They’ve never had some of Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles or gotten caught in rush hour traffic on the way to the LAX. They have no tie to the city and once again I can’t take you seriously.
  • 21% Of Laker fans are from cities like San Fran, DC, Chicago, etc. They have a team right down the street from their house, but choose to the Lakers because they win. They are what’s known as a bandwagon fan.
  • 28% of Laker fans from Cali were calling for Kobe’s head the year Shaq left, basically saying he was the root of all evil. Now he can do no wrong. Fickle.
  • 99% of Laker fans are only present L.A. wins. If the Lakers suffer a loss don’t look for them on Twitter or Facebook and don’t call them. They won’t answer because they have no answer for their team losing.
  • 42% of Laker fans will probably stop cheering for the Lakers after Kobe retires. They’ll cling to some new media proclaimed MJ heir and invest all their energy into that team.

Give me a Sixer, Knicks, or a Piston fan any day of the week. You HAVE to have dedication and loyalty to cheer for those teams.  And that’s just how I’m feelin…

#COSIGN #COSIGN #COSIGN!! I tweeted last night abt the Lakers and their fans: “this is why i don’t like the Lakers. the team and their fans are too obnoxious for my liking. #teamceltics -_-” Once they won the game, ALL their “fans” started bashing the #teamceltics TT with nonsense reasons for why it was still at the top of the trending section despite their loss, pulling that whole “I don’t see any Celtics fans in my timeline. I wanna know what your excuse is for losing this game”, and “Kobe this” and “Kobe that.” It’s like they’re moderately quiet until that thing that says FINAL has them as the winner and then they don’t know how to shut the eff up. It’s disgusting.

I love your stats btw! Totally true lol. One thing this post has done is make me realize that I do have some respect for the Lakers, historically, they are a good team, but yeah…them fans man, them fans gotta go–my father included lol.

    Pistons fan? Really? O.o

I appreciate this post. And I apprciate your stats. I absolutely agree with many not knowing the game of basketball and I absolutely agree that fans won’t be loyal once Kobe retires. What I don’t understand is why a Laker fan needs to live in the area or have traveled there to be a fan. What difference does it make whether I’m a Kings fan or a Lakers fan? People are fans of teams becasue they win. Living in a big city makes not the slightest difference whether our team is well known or has a chance (bc mine doesn’t). Winning attracts people. No one wants to be a fan of a losing team.

I COMPLETELY agree with the annoyance of obnoxious fans (not to say I’m not one of them), but it’s gotten to the point from my perspective that so many haters exist, we need to rub it in when they win!

And a TRUE Laker fan (like me, Briana, and Lyndsey 😉 are on Twitter when they lose as well.

Simone- i think it’s funny you would notice the Piston part out of all parts #subtweet LOL! My point with being from a city with a team and still cheerin for L.A. is that you come off as a bandwagon fan. It’s easy to cheer for a team because they are winning but that to me doesnt make one a true fan. Like seriously who would u cheer for if the Lakers had not won those 3 titles? I guarantee it wouldnt be L.A. P.S. yall three maybe online when the Lakers lose but yall definitly avoid talking about the game!!!
Mrs. Bev-I agree! Someone was telling me that if Boston wins it’ll be because the team came together, but if L.A. wins it’ll be because Kobe did on his own. As good as Gasol,Odom and Fisher are, Kobe’s presence overshadows anything they’ve ever accomplised.
Jamie: you saw that tweet about my Laker lovin cousin right? yeah he falls in like 3 diff stats that DONT qualify him to be a laker fan lol. But yea it really is annoying and what cracked me up when I lived in Cali was the way they would actually get upset like they wanted to fight if you said somethin after a Laker loss smh!! #GoCeltics!!

Ok, point taken, you’re probably correct. Funny, that the question you pose my mother posed as well. And I’ll answer you just as I answered her: the Phoenix Suns 😉

I picked teams I saw people rep on twitter and facebook and pointed them out because those teams are going through a rebuilding process and those fans are still right by them. CLEARLY that particular someone stuck out to you. I’m just sayin lol…

Lakers are a one-man team — Kobe Bryant–. This is why we hate the Lakers. He is a ball hog and without him, Lakers has no team. I agree, once Kobe retires, unless he is replaced by another phenomenal player, we will all be saying, “Lakers Who???”

Katt Williams said it best: “It is a hater’s job to hate.” Of course they’re gonna hate something that’s unstoppable. Just let the haters do there job =D
