Aminate Ba Attorny at Law

There is an old saying that “idle hands don’t get fed,” and junior Aminate Ba is doing everything in her power to make sure she never goes hungry. Ba was originally born in Darkur, the capitol of Senegal and moved to the United States as an infant. She said her parents moved to the U.S. to ensure better opportunities for the entire family.

Ba is taking full advantage of the opportunities given to her, pursuing a career in entertainment law. An avid Law & Order fan, Ba originally wanted to be a prosecutor but felt the position was not right for her personality. One day she heard her friend’s father speak about his journey to becoming an entertainment lawyer and at that moment, Ba decided she too would have a career in entertainment law. His “rags to riches” story inspired Ba to succeed. “I felt that if he could do what he does in spite of his background that there’s no reason why I can’t do it,” she said. The career choice is also a good fit for her personality. She enjoys logic and reasoning and said “my mind races to different things,” and law gives her the freedom to explore different options within the career field.  Junior Terry Parker believes she will be successful no matter what option she chooses. Parker met Ba during their freshman year and describes her as a “very determined individual,” and “a people person with great communication skills,” all of which will aid her in a career in entertainment law.

Eventually Ba would like to represent Hollywood’s top stars but for now, she represents the student body on campus. Ba is a second year student leader and can be seen around campus spreading her enthusiasm and school spirit.   When she’s not encouraging others to participate in Hampton activities, she likes to cook, eat and spend time with her friends.  When you first meet her, you may notice her cheerful demeanor, upbeat personality and infectious smile, but there is another tough, more solemn side that many people would not know just by looking at her. Parker said “Many don’t see how stressed she gets. She takes her work very serious and her grades reflect that, but she never lets it show.” Growing up Ba learned discipline through dance. She trained in a variety of styles including jazz, hip-hop and lyrical. In high school, Ba played for her school’s lacrosse team. Even though lacrosse wasn’t her cup of tea, she stuck it out and proved that she could do it.

Ba said that she enjoys Hampton University because she’s able to “learn something new everyday.” With these daily lessons in her constantly moving hands, Aminate Ba looks to make sure her future is as filling as possible.
